Action Kivu is paying the school fees for Ntaboba (translated "no fear"). One of the children most affected by the war in eastern Congo, his father was shot dead seven years ago. When Ntaboba was six, his right leg was seriously injured by a grenade explosion in the jungle while he was collecting firewood. In spite of his disability, Ntaboba walks five kilometers to school each day. Now 12 years old, Ntaboba should be in sixth grade, but due to lack of money for school he has missed quite a bit and is only in the third grade. Sending him to school has never been a priority for his family, not only because of his disability but also because of their financial problems. His family life is difficult and he is the last of 11 children. His village is called Cidundu which is located in the Momosho district, approximately 20 km south of Bukavu. Cidundu is a very poor agricultural village and the area has been deeply affected by the successive wars in eastern Congo.
"Since ABFEK started paying school fees for me, I’ve never been chased from school anymore. I am okay and I am doing very well and this year I’ll succeed without any problem. The only difficulty I am facing is whenever it rains; I have problems to walk because of mud and from my home to school there is a small hill which also causes me a problem. My most favorite subject in school is anatomy, I want to become a medical doctor one day in my life and treat patients in hospital."
